General Conference!

I hope you all enjoyed General Conference as much as I did (see LDS.org if you missed it)! I didn't actually get to watch much of it, as the Sisters were out and about talking to guests and members, and asking anyone if we could call friends and send them a Book of Mormon or a Restoration DVD. We all got up and on the Square by 8 am and left at 9 pm-- it's pretty crazy during Conference Time. The weather was perfect, but today it's raining and stormy. That's a tender mercy :D Before Conference this week Sister Johnson and I met Ann and Patrick from New Jersey. We had quite a good discussion with them about what we believe and they were so nice and friendly! Near the end of the tour Patrick commented on our "happy eyes". I know he was talking about the Holy Spirit! Galatians 5 talks about the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Patrick also gave me a nickname: "Stretch" ...since I'm so tall. haha. Dean from Birmingham, England is a funeral director and ...

Week one on The Square

Well-- here I am, finally at Temple Square! There really are visitors from around the globe that come to visit. It's amazing! Temple Square gets 3 million visitors annually. The Sisters that I serve with are from 50 different countries and speak 43 languages. IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO TEMPLE SQUARE, MAKE YOUR TRAVEL PLANS NOW. (seriously!) There are Sisters on Temple Square from 9 am to 9 pm every day of the week giving tours, including Sunday. My trainer is Sister Robin Johnson, she's from Sacramento, California! I love her lots. Sorry I don't have a picture to post, I need to get a converter for my SD drive to plug into the computer. [STORY OF MY LIFE/ MISSION!] Here are two experiences I've had with visitors here on the Square this week: Oscar of Anaheim, CA: Near the end of the tour after I told him about temples, Oscar asked (in his broken Spanish accent): "Have you always been this happy?". My reply was: "No. When I was 12 years old, I was awk...

No-Sweets Anecdote

Scene: Evening. Emily is sitting dejectedly on the living room couch, watching and/or listening to something on the computer. She is eating Ritz Wheat Crackers. She can hear the general chatter of the ward from her open balcony door. [enter Darcy] Darcy: Hey, Em! What're you up to? Why won't you come outside and hang out with us? Emily: [bites into another cracker] I had to come inside. I just knew that if I stayed outside with everyone I'd eat a peanut butter cookie. So I'm eating Ritz Crackers instead. [exit Darcy, laughing]

No-Sweets

Darcy and I are on a 21 day no-sweets challenge. Day 3 has been killer. Everyone is eating root beer floats outside. I came inside after mingling so I wouldn't continue to tempt myself. I had this thought as I climbed the Y for the first time last month: Anything worthwhile is going to be hard work. And I'll continue to stick to that motto.

My Junior Recital Poster!!

My room mate Jessica is a master at photoshop and just visual arts in general :) [in case you're wondering, YES, we are wearing those fabulous dresses for our recital!!!!] Come to my recital if you're in the area! Friday April 2nd, 9:30 pm in the Madsen Recital Hall (on the BYU campus, in the HFAC). My whole family is coming down and I'm very excited!!

You know it's REALLY bad when you start talking to electrical outlets.

Here's a favorite piece that I found while shopping at RC Willey. Seriously. When I have a voice studio, I'll say: "Oh, you're five minutes early. Have a seat on the sofa." And they'll gingerly sit on this lovely little seat because it's so fancy and beautiful. Then I'll serve dinner to my family- and we'll have a dining table that's higher than normal with high chairs so that my feet dangle as we eat so I can still feel like a child. And my kitchen counters will be abnormally high so that every time I go to cook I'm not breaking my back (and I'm totally serious about this) throughout the house will be awesome area rugs. Like these ones. I'm all about having cloth napkins- so I can do my part and take care of the environment, and have an easy switch around of decorations. Anyways, Biology just makes my head hurt. I'm just avoiding homework. And celebrating my birthday early.

New Year's Resolution

Well, it's that time of year. Christmas festivities are over, a new calendar year is coming up, a new semester of school starts for me, and just about everyone makes a New Year's Resolution. I don't have a very typical one this year, but I make this resolution with the hope that the world and I will be better at the end of next year. My focus is on the word LOVE. I will consciously think of love when I'm in frustrating situations, and respond with more love. I will notice those around me who need love, and offer it as readily as I can. I will try not to suppress any generous thoughts, but act on them and not be afraid of what others think my motives are. I will speak of others with love, and leave gossip behind. I will find a way to love my classes, classmates, room mates, homework, practice hours, and my church calling. I will give service and try to consciously do a good deed each day. This might sound like a crazy goal. I'm sure it won't be easy. I'm sure...
